Dear Students and Parents,
Thank you for a great first few weeks back at school! I have really enjoyed getting to know each student and setting the tone for the rest of the year. I am excited for all the discussions, books, projects, essays, stories, and academic growth awaiting us this year. I wanted to send out an email to outline a few resources available to students (and parents) to make sure you are aware of everything going on in this class. First of all, my website (mrsmacey.weebly.com) should be your #1 go=to site. I no longer send out weekly emails to parents, outlining what we have accomplished in the week and what projects will be due the following week. Instead, I work diligently to keep the calendar portion of my website up to date and informative so that both students and parents can know what is coming up. Parents, I encourage you to look at the calendar with your child at least once a week and have a discussion on what your child is currently working on in my class. Students, checking the website once a day is going to help you remember what we learned in class and what homework you have at home. Second, I cannot overstate the great value in checking your grades often on Skyward. Your grade should not be a surprise to you nor to your parents. If you earn a low score on something, be sure to study it and retake/redo the test or assignment As Soon As Possible. There are some assignments that have a time limit for redo's. Come see me at a convenient time, and I will gladly help you learn the material. (In this first week of grades, I have even spent some extra time writing comments on grades so that you can be aware of why you earned the grade you did.) Finally, please do not hesitate to come talk to me. Email, phone call, or scheduled appointment before or after school. I am anxious to teach and support you in your growth, but in order for me to do that there must be open conversation between students and myself. I greatly value autonomous students, ones who take personal responsibility for their learning and come ask for support when they need it. I try to respond to emails and phone calls within a day of receiving them. This is going to be a fabulous year! Use these resources and myself to help you through the class. Best, Mrs. Macey
